Talent Wars Podcast: Inside Greensboro’s Effort to Make More Workplaces Family-Friendly
August 07, 2024On this episode of Talent Wars, host Patience Fairbrother sits down with Cecelia Thompson, executive director of Action Greensboro, to discuss the inspiration behind Future Ready Greensboro: an initiative spearheaded by Action Greensboro in partnership with Family Forward NC to increase the share of family-friendly workplaces in Greensboro, NC.
Research shows family-friendly workplaces improve workplace productivity, recruitment and retention, grow a strong economy and support children’s healthy development. However, Greensboro found that only seven percent of current employers offered paid parental or family leave, and employers in most industries surveyed by Action Greensboro said they offered no childcare support to their employees. Under the leadership of Cecelia Thompson, Action Greensboro is taking this crucial issue into its own hands, in partnership with Family Forward NC.
Cecelia Thompson is an influential leader in Greensboro’s economic development and workforce attraction and retention efforts, bringing innovative approaches and big ideas, including the successful Boomerang Greensboro campaign. In this episode of Talent Wars, Thompson shares her insights and experiences, offering advice on:
- Embracing flexibility and being prepared to pivot your talent strategies.
- Validating your concepts with solid data, using DCI’s Talent Wars research as a key resource.
- Building a team that understands and supports your vision, including adaptable funders.
