Talent Wars Podcast: How A TikToker Attracted Hundreds to Peoria, IL

Join host Patience Fairbrother on the latest episode of Talent Wars as she sits down with Angie Ostaszewski, also known as AngiesListings on TikTok, to break down how she singlehandedly influenced hundreds of people to move to Peoria, Illinois. 

Angie started her TikTok account, AngiesListings, in 2020 to showcase Peoria’s affordable housing market by profiling real estate listings. Considering that our Talent Wars research shows that cost of living is the number one factor talent considers when relocating, it’s no surprise that TikTok users found this content compelling. But the results of Angie’s work exceeded her expectations. 

What started as a side project during the pandemic grew into a viral sensation and has resulted in an estimated 700 people moving to Peoria, to date. Angie’s enthusiasm and authenticity not only inspired hundreds to move, but also built a thriving, inclusive community in her home city. The success of this effort has earned her speaking engagements and profile features by the likes of the New York Times.
