A talent destination for Greater Lexington, Kentucky

In 2023, Greater Lexington, Kentucky, was at a crossroads. The community had over 140,000 open jobs and only half the workers to fill those positions. While there were several local grassroots efforts to recruit and retain talent, the region lacked a centralized destination to showcase its unique value proposition. Since launch, LookatLEX.com has helped shift the narrative of Greater Lexington from an under-the-radar mid-size market to a lifestyle-first destination for young professionals and growing families. The site soft-launched in July 2024 and quickly saw measurable engagement across its interactive features.

The Challenge

Serving nine counties and multiple local partners, Commerce Lexington struggled to effectively support talent recruitment and retention efforts for the whole Bluegrass region. The organization needed a cohesive story and central location to provide comprehensive relocation resources for job seekers, recruiters and stakeholders.

The Solution

DCI capitalized on previous research and brand work to build an interactive and accessible website experience, featuring custom tools such as a cost-of-living calculator, a jobs board, an interactive map of the nine-county region, and an HR toolkit. The site highlights diverse career paths, neighborhoods, industries and quality of life factors unique to the Bluegrass region and accompanied by vivid imagery and video. The result is a talent site that not only informs, but inspires relocation.

The Results

  • 34,000+

new users in the first nine months

  • Top Engagement

on core pages such as “Live Here”, “Find a Job” and the Cost-of-Living calculator

  • 16,000+

users through organic social thanks to highly shareable content

[LookatLEX.com] captures the heart of Greater Lexington and gives people the tools they need to picture a life here. We’re proud of how it came together and how it positions our region to compete more effectively for top talent and long-term economic growth.
