Dariel Curren Promoted to DCI Executive Vice President

Dariel Y. Curren has been promoted to executive vice president at Development Counsellors International (DCI).

Known as the “Leader in Marketing Places,” DCI is considered the worlds’ foremost economic development and tourism marketing agency and has helped more than 500 cities, regions, states, provinces and countries attract business investment, talent and visitors since the firm was founded in New York City in 1960.

“Dariel has been one of DCI’s driving forces since she joined our firm 23 years ago,” said Julie Curtin, president of the firm’s Economic Development Division. “She has a wealth of experience in place making, a creative marketing mind, strong management skills and a passion for the impactful work we do to create jobs and prosperity for communities around the world.”

Curren, who has more than 30 years of experience in marketing and communications, joined DCI in 1995 and was named director of the company’s Economic Development Division in 2010. Her clients have spanned the world, including destinations from Montreal to Miami and New York to the Netherlands.

Curren has created award-winning marketing programs that integrate high-profile media exposure for clients with websites and other digital strategies. She has also developed dozens of community branding and marketing strategies and serves as the agency’s media training specialist.

Curren has been a featured speaker for the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) and numerous other economic development organizations across the U.S. and Canada. She has also been published in the IEDC Journal and regularly teaches IEDC’s marketing course.

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York and the mother of two children, Curren holds a B.A. degree in English and American Literature from Brown University.
