Four Great Quotes from the “Secrets of Site Selection” Conference

March 27, 2015

On March 25-26, Consultant Connect held its annual “Secrets of Site Selection” Conference in Greenville, South Carolina. Forty-plus economic developers from around the country gathered to focus on their own professional development and get an inside look at site selection from the consultant’s point of view.

Consultant Connect Secrets of Site Selection

I went through my notes on the flight home and picked out specific quotes that stood out as relevant thinking for the economic development profession. I’m paraphrasing some of these as my pen wasn’t quite as fast as needed:

It’s not about the size of the incentive check; it’s about the lowest cost of doing business.

Betty McIntosh, Managing Director, Cushman & Wakefield

Your community’s story should read like a children’s book.

— Brad Migdal, Executive Managing Director, Transwestern

One of the biggest mistakes communities make is using data that compares itself to the past.  A company considering an investment doesn’t care what your community looked like ten years ago.

— Kate McEnroe, Owner, Kate McEnroe Consulting

The landscape is changing.  I predict financial incentives will go away in the next 10-15 years.  It’s going to be all about your workforce and your talent pipeline.

— Gray Swoope, President & CEO, Vission First Advisors, LLC

Special thanks to all the communities that joined us for an exceptional conference.
