DMO Launches First Periscope Virtual Tour
March 27, 2015 | By: DCIOn Thursday, March 26th, Twitter announced the official launch of Periscope. On Friday, March 27th, one DMO hit the road to livestream content to their Periscope followers.
Visit North Carolina (@VisitNC) became the first state brand to seize the opportunity and live stream video captured across the state. From the mountains to the coast, the vast and rich experiences of the various regions were showcased to followers. Audiences had the chance to experience the state’s #VacationBig campaign first-hand by learning about the Spanish mustangs while touring Carova Beach at noon, taking a ride in the NASCAR Hall of Fame simulator in Charlotte, before crossing Grandfather Mountain’s Mile High Swinging Bridge at 2pm.
“Periscope is an ideal platform for showcasing travel in North Carolina,” said Wit Tuttell, executive director of Visit North Carolina. “It’s an active and interactive way to help users envision what they’ll experience in our destinations, where people come to vacation big.”
Twitter acquired video livestreaming app, Periscope, in early 2015 while it was still in beta stages. The Periscope platform enables livestreaming from a mobile phone and syncs with Twitter for immediate live broadcast to followers on IOS devices (an Android version is currently in the works). Periscope marks the first time the social media giant has offered livestreaming capabilities to its users in an effort to help viewers “see the world through someone else’s eyes”.
Other destination marketing organizations found on Periscope include San Diego Tourism Authority, Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority and Visit Scotland.
